Sheffield charity ‘elves’ bring cheer to older people after bumper beauty donation

Charity ‘elves’ will deliver more than 100 presents to isolated older people- who might otherwise have had nothing to open on Christmas Day.

Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care (SCCCC) volunteers and staff will drop off the bumper batch of beauty sets and pampering packs donated by international wholesalers Pricecheck.

Charity bosses say the gifts will bring much needed cheer to older people after a tough year, with the pandemic prompting much of its face-to-face work to be altered or suspended.

Mark Storey, CEO at SCCCC, said: “The reality of Christmas for hundreds of older people in this city is one of loneliness and isolation. But thanks to the kind donation of these gift sets, we hope to bring some much needed festive cheer to our much loved service users- some of whom might otherwise have had nothing to open on Christmas Day.”

SCCCC has continued to provide its services to isolated, older people in Sheffield throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

Good Neighbour Scheme volunteers have swapped visits for phone calls to help keep older people company, hundreds of people have responded to the newly launched Pen pal appeal and the charity has maintained the help it gives to older people when returning from hospital.

Pricecheck has supported SCCCC throughout the year by giving food and toiletry hampers to support the most vulnerable.  Now, as part of its ‘12 Days of Giving’ Christmas campaign, the wholesaler has donated gift sets by popular brands such as Dove, Nivea Men and Love Beauty & Planet.

Debbie Harrison, Joint Managing Director at Pricecheck UK, said: “This Christmas we wanted to support the local community more than ever before.

“We know that SCCCC plays an important part in supporting older people across the region.

These people are often the most vulnerable in our communities and are likely to have been affected heavily by Covid-19. We just hope that in some way these gifts put a smile on their faces – and even make their Christmas.”
