Handy brothers give back salaries to Sheffield charity where they work

Two young Sheffield brothers have contributed a chunk of their salaries to boost the vital work of the older persons’ charity they work for.

Callum (17) and Kieran Maxted (19), from Greenhill say they’ve made the generous gesture having seen first-hand the outstanding contribution Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care (SCCCC) makes to the lives of older people in the city.

The handy duo, who donated £200 each last month, learnt about the work of SCCCC when they started volunteering two years ago.

They’re now sessional workers for the charity- parachuted in to move furniture and fit equipment to make things easier for older people when they return home following a stay in hospital.

Callum said: “I work for SCCCC during the holidays or when I have any other spare time away from college during the week.  Knowing that I have helped an elderly person in need by providing the necessary support is a great feeling.

“Not only that, but SCCCC have given me an opportunity to broaden my own work experience. Therefore, I felt that it was only right that I gave something back to the charity.”

Kieran, who works at the charity when he comes home for his university break, said: “I generally work with the Hospital to Home team. It’s an eye-opening experience, and helps me to understand and empathise with the challenges older people face. It also lets me actively assist others in overcoming them.

“I believe that SCCCC deserves this contribution for all the great things they have done for the community and will continue to do.”

SCCCC is always looking for volunteers to carry out its vital work in the community, especially from students, who can volunteer on an ad-hoc basis around studies.

Volunteering can be rewarding, fulfilling, build confidence and enhance social skills. For those looking for employment, volunteering is encouraged as it is an opportunity to update a CV, to gain valuable work references.
