During the Covid 19 pandemic and lock down many charities, ourselves included, have had to cancel our ‘face to face’ fundraising activities. This is having a devastating effect on our finances, not to mention the fact that we are really missing interacting with all the lovely people who help us by organising and running events.
There are however ways you can help us (and other charities of course) which are purely online and require nothing more than for you to modify your online shopping processes. You shop; we benefit from a small donation. Win, win.
Lots of us have embraced online ordering; including older adults who may in the past have shieded away from online shopping. From the weekly grocery shop to books, music and all the other ‘necessities’ of life we have taken to shopping online.
Here’s a few eye watering statistics:
- During May 2020 Ecommerce accounted for 33.4% of all GB retail sales
- 11.3% of all food sales in May 2020 were made online, up from 9.4% in April
- 35% of all UK online purchases during lockdown were made via Amazon
(all above source https://econsultancy.com/stats-roundup-coronavirus-impact-on-marketing-ecommerce-advertising/)
- E-commerce transactions in the UK retail sector saw a 168 percent increase in May compared to the same period last year
- Only 16% of UK shoppers say they’ll return to their pre Covid shopping habits and 48% of shoppers have said they are now fearful of shopping in store.
With all this in mind, we would like you to help us to raise much needed funds the next time YOU shop online by considering the following 5 options.
Donate While You Shop!
Here’s a quick breakdown of 5 quick and easy ways you could help us whilst you shop.
As the statistic above says – during lockdown 35% of UK online purchases were made via Amazon. Imagine if even 0.5% of the purchase prices were donated to charity.
Well they could be because Smile.amazon.co.uk allows us all to opt to have 0.5% of everything we buy via the site donated to a charity of our choice. In fact £3,679,275.06 has been raised for UK charities via this method as of June 2020!
Using (and therefore donating) via this method is simple, painless and doesn’t require you to do anything at all – other than to remember to log onto your Amazon account via Smile.amazon.co.uk
If your purchase is included in the scheme your donation will be automatically forwarded to the charity YOU select via the Amazon Smile page which you access from your Amazon account (see below).
You can also activate the Amazon Smile app on your phone (both Android and IOS).
Find SCCCC by searching for Sheffield Churches’ Council for Community Care (see the image below), hit select and that’s it!
Do you (or a relative) have an atticful of ‘stuff’ that you keep meaning to get rid of but just never get round to doing so? Is your garage chock full of things that you don’t need or want anymore? Or does your jewellery box have loads of broken bits and pieces that you no longer wear?
If you said yes to any of the above then why not consider decluttering and donating all of these items to Vintage Giving? They will assess and sell your items and then donate the amount raised to your chosen charity.
It’s simple and doesn’t cost you anything – they even pay the postage!
Visit the site, scroll to the bottom of the page and request your ‘donation pack’ where you can choose your charity from the drop down list that appears. If you can’t see your chosen charity you have the option to type in the name.
Here’s a link to a great little booklet which explains how Vintage Giving works.
Easy Fundraising is the UK’s biggest charity shopping fundraising site which has raised over £32million for charity since launching in 2005.

You’ll be prompted to create an account and then each time you go online to shop at any of the 4,257 retailers registered with the Easy Fundraising sign into your account first of all and a donation will be made to your chosen charity…US! There’s even a reminder you can activate which will direct you shop via the Easy Fundraising should you forget!
Every Click is another ‘portal’ website that donates to a charity of your choosing when you shop online with any of the 4,000 online retailers currently registered with. They also offerseveral other fundraising options which are listed at the end of this section.

Click the green button to support us and you’ll be prompted to create an account.
There are several ways to then begin raising funds for your chosen charity:

GoRaise works in much the same way as the other sites in this article. Set up in 2015 it has more than 3000 retailers and 80,000+ registered causes – including SCCCC.
When you visit the website, search for the charity you wish to support:
We are SCCCC on this site so type that in the box and hit GO.
Clicking the pink arrow on the right will take you to a new page where you register using your name and email address.
It’s then a case of logging into GoRaise before you do your online shopping and a donation will be made to your chosen charity.
Please Help Us!
We appreciate that all of these 5 options require you to log onto another website before you do your online shopping…but it’s a small change to your normal practice which could make a big difference to us at SCCCC.
If you do sign up for any of these services please tell your friends and family – let everyone know how easy it can be to help small charities like ours fundraise even during these tricky times.
